We have within us the power and drive to heal.
I will provide you with the tools you need to examine and learn from the past and create a fresh start.
Perhaps you are in recovery from experiences or people that have undermined your confidence and motivation.
We can work to transform the energy of unhappiness and fear into better relationships and improved health. Recovering your dreams and finding meaning and purpose is integral to our work. Along with CBT, EMDR, and Mindfulness I use newer, more effective interventions like the Emotional Freedom Technique to work with the body/mind/spirit connection.
What’s It Like to Work With Me?
Over 95% of people who have a first session with me come back.
My clients tell me I am warm and intelligent. They can tell I really care. They express feeling safe sharing their pain and they have confidence that our work together will improve or resolve what brought them into therapy.
In our first session I will listen carefully to what brings you in and we will develop your initial goals. My approach is to understand what you really want — your dream. I will help you identify and resolve what's getting in the way and help you make the changes needed. I want you to experience lasting happiness and peace so I am outcome driven on your behalf. I will provide you with fresh tools and resources so that you can manage negative experiences and emotions long after our sessions have ended. Sometimes you may just need support, and that’s OK too. Psychotherapy is an investment of your time and resources and mine. When we invest together, change occurs.

GET TO KNOW ME
My life experiences are extensive and varied.
I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and moved to Santa Barbara, Ca after graduating from James Madison University with a BS in Psychology with minors in Public Health and Broadcasting. I received a Masters in Clinical Psychology, specializing in Physical Rehabilitation from Goddard College, Los Angeles in 1979 and became a licensed Marriage, Family Child Therapist in California.
In 1978 I moved to the Bay Area where I held positions in psychiatric vocational rehabilitation and college counseling. In 1983 I returned to Virginia, married, started my family, and completed three years of post-graduate work in Family Systems and Family Psychotherapy at the Georgetown University Family Center. My husband was an Army psychiatrist and our family moved to Hawaii where we lived for 10 years. During this time I obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University, Hawaii Campus, an APA approved program, and specialized in Child and Family Studies.
I later became a single parent, re-married, raised my children and moved to Philadelphia, PA where I practiced psychology at the Crossover Health Center, Comcast Corporate Headquarters. I understand how it feels to experience separation and loss and to create a successful, happy life again.
Now I live in the DMV (DC, MD, Va). I continue to take my holistic training to new levels of integration and power. It’s a joy to blend new peer-reviewed scientific discoveries in energy psychology with the foundational principles of psychotherapy. The art and practice of healing each individual person has been, and will remain, my professional focus.
I am passionate about creating happiness and peace.
My life experiences have provided me with an integrated, whole-person, whole family perspective.Though I currently only treat adults, I have treated many children and adolescents, including students in special education. Those experiences have helped me understand how developmental experiences affect adults. For the last six years, in addition to my private practice, I have served as a Primary Care Psychologist on medical teams serving Fortune 50 and Fortune 500 multicultural corporate employees.
I value health and fitness and am an avid distance walker, international traveler, music lover, creative writer, and amateur Nature photographer. I have a Brown Belt in Nia Dance and study and practice Qigong and Ecopsychology. I often recommend time in Nature and immersion in beauty, music, and movement as part of psychotherapy.
